Giugliano: ‘I Want To Race In Jerez’

Italian hotshot keen to return before Ducati contract expires

Having withdrawn from the Magny-Cours races after his heavy crash at the Lausitzring a fortnight earlier, Davide Giugliano is eager to get back on-track with just two rounds remaining of the 2016 WorldSBK season.

Giugliano rode in practice at Magny-Cours but, following a low-speed crash on his out-lap from the pits in Superpole 1, then withdrew from the event due to suffering too much discomfort from the torn muscle in his left shoulder.

The Italian, who has recently become a father, speaks with WorldSBK.com.

“I’m better now and I’m working to improve my fitness with the shoulder,” Giugliano explains over the telephone. “There are no broken bones, but a couple of significant muscle tears which did not allow me to ride properly. I am in the hands of the professionals, doing a lot of physiotherapy and trying to resolve this situation to be able to return at Jerez.

“When I rode in France, I had no strength in my arm. After the second run in Free Practice 1 I could no longer lift my arm, which did not make things easy. We know what the problem is and we are trying to solve it. I will travel to Jerez and I want to race there. It’s normal to ride in a bit of pain sometimes; we are riders and we encounter situations like this a few times every year.”

The Roman also shared the latest on his situation for 2017, as he continues to search for a ride after being replaced as Chaz Davies’ team-mate at the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati team by WorldSBK returnee Marco Melandri.

“My colleagues and I are working on the future, we are evaluating different options; we will remain calm and continue to move forward,” Giugliano concludes.
